The South Dakota state Transportation Commission has passed rules allowing platooning on the interstates. Platooning is where two trucks are linked by way of a wireless system and travel very close to each other. There are two drivers who can override the system if needed, but when synced they respond the same in all situations; they brake and change speeds at the same time. The rules would not allow platooning during certain weather conditions or when the motorcycles are coming in for Sturgis. The states around South Dakota allow platooning, but now these rules need to go through the Legislature’s Rules Review Committee before being allowed.
