CalTrans and TechniSoil are teaming up to put a road outside Oroville, California that is made out of recycled plastics. Last year, TechniSoil paved an intersection with this new mixture in downtown Los Angeles and its success has lead to this new phase in development. This new technique takes the top 3 inches off the current road and mixes it with a liquid polymer mostly made of recycled plastic bottles. According to those at TechniSoil, every per-lane mile accounts for the use of 150,000 bottles. This topcoat is supposed to be strong and last longer than your average hot-mix asphalt.
