This week, the Georgia Department of Public Safety’s Motor Carrier Compliance Division took part in a Port Check and Distracted Driving event. They focused on those trucks hauling intermodal containers, hauling hazardous materials, and those operating unsafely. Set up along the I-95/I-16 corridors and areas near the Port of Savannah, these officers gave out 5 violations for tailing, 40 violations for improperly switching lanes, and 103 violations for cell phone usage. Hazmat and non-hazmat inspections were also done and 28 trucks and 9 drivers were put out of service. These events are done throughout the year to encourage safe driving.
