There are bridges out there too low for big trucks, lots of them. They either get stuck and need rescuing or become convertibles if they make it through, kind of. The following is a short list of bridges in the U.S. that have claimed many big rigs and have become famous for it.
- The Independence Avenue Bridge in Kansas City, Missouri has been taking out tractor-trailers for years. This railroad overpass is 12-feet high, was built in 1912, and has become quite famous to locals. No matter the amount of signage the city pays for, trucks keep going through.
- The Gregson Street overpass in Durham, North Carolina has been taking out trucks for over a decade. It has been dubbed “The Can Opener” and in the past 12 years has taken out nearly 200 tall vehicles.
- The Storrow Drive overpass in Boston, Massachusetts is famous for taking out the moving trucks new students use when moving into the dorms of nearby colleges.
