Cutting Emissions to Zero by Electrification of Transportation in California

California is on a path to reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions. Ultimately, the goal is to have all forms of transportation in California be zero-emission vehicles. There is currently a small percentage of hybrid or electric heavy-duty trucks driving California’s roads while the majority are running on diesel. State officials see this as a major cause of their pollution issues and are working their way toward helping the environment by cutting out the problem. 

There are a lot of ideas thrown out there and obstacles to get around in order to help California work through its pollution problems. Right now, big rigs are not subject to smog inspections, which could change very quickly with a bill advancing in the legislature. Highways will need to be altered for charging stations. The cost of an electric big rig is more than double a normal semi tractor trailer. All around, the cost is going to be high, but the goal of improving air quality makes it worth it.
