Moving one giant turbine takes a year to plan and ten loads to complete. It’s not as simple as strapping in the giant blade and hoping you make it to the destination unscathed. A year of planning includes making sure your route works, permits are purchased, and bridges are safe to go under. Performing a dry run of the route is a good way to make sure you know where all the obstacle are and how to avoid them. The dangerous job of hauling these massive pieces is done by ATS drivers who must first complete a 3+ year long training program.
Sure, right now trucking is not an overly green and air-friendly system, but we are working on it with technologies involving different fuels and electric trucks. Yet, getting wind turbines to their destination helps make the world a bit healthier in the long run.
