New Study Shows Health Risks in Trucking Industry

Michigan based consulting firm Atlas Injury Prevention Solutions conducted a study to look deeper into the health and wellness of those in the trucking industry. For both drivers and non-driver employees, the study looked at hypertension, cholesterol, blood glucose levels, triglycerides, waist circumference and body mass index (BMI). Done over a 5-year period, the study helps to understand the effect demographics have on the health of people in the industry.

The study shows higher levels of obesity among drivers when compared to non-drivers. It also shows that drivers are 130% more likely to smoke then non-drivers which leads to more health problems. This study shows the health warnings out there throughout the industry and gives suggestions on how to bring awareness to these problems and preventing them. A healthy trucking industry is the goal!
