In Salem, Ore., the nine-day walkout from the Oregon Senate over the proposed carbon emissions bill came to an end. The Republicans returned to the Senate on Saturday, after walking out nine days earlier, making the vote 17-10, sending the proposal back to the committee and not going through. The republicans opposed the bill because it will raise fuel prices and hurt the logging and trucking industries of Oregon.
If the bill went through, Oregon would have been the second state, after California, to regulate emissions by way of cap and trade. This system is aimed toward helping reduce greenhouse gases.
