As a means to fill the shortage of drivers, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) wants to hear from the public before starting up its pilot program of having drivers under 21 getting CDLs. The National Truck Carriers, California Trucking Association, and the ATA support the idea, but there are some safety groups who warn that younger drivers would lead to more crashes. The National Safety Council (NSC) think its a risk not worth taking and believes that more research should be done before the pilot project is put into fruition. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety encourages the FMCSA to research a similar program currently happening in the military. The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) feels this is the wrong direction and that more focus should be put on the high driver turnover rate.

Prediction of more ACCIDENTS because of 21 yr.old people get their CDL,is totally untrue.
There are PLENTY of 21 yr.old people out there that are RESPONSIBLE YOUNG ADULTS, GIVE THEM A CHANCE..
