In California, the bill that could potentially end the leased owner-operator model is heading for its deadline. The California legislature has until September 13 to pass the bill otherwise it will be put on hold until next year. This bill was put forth to change the worker misclassification across all businesses in the state and would ultimately block carriers from being able to hire owner-operators.
The California Trucking Association opposes the bill as is because there is no exemption for trucking. This bill would also upend businesses like Uber and lyft.
