The American Trucking Associations has told a House Subcommittee that using tolls to finance construction and maintenance of the infrastructure is damaging to the trucking industry. They are more than willing to pay their fair share but feel that tolls are not the way to to go and hurts the industry, ultimately hurting the consumer. Darren Hawkins, CEO of YRC Worldwide Inc., stated that there were inefficiencies in toll collections and that some states are abusing tolls to fund other projects at the expense of the toll payers and the trucking industry.
