Laws currently state that every two years passenger vehicles that are six years old or older have to pass a smog test. Now, a bill has just been signed to add trucks to the list of required vehicles that need to pass a smog check. Environmentalists in California are hoping that this new law will reduce emissions that create the smog. The new law applies to most commercial vehicles that weigh more than 14,000 pounds and does not include buses.
The law was supported by quite a few health organizations but was opposed by some trucking organizations and industry groups.
