Like California’s Assembly Bill 5, New Jersey is considering legislation to determine if a worker is an employee or independent contractor. Senate Bill 4204 would use a three-part test to find out if the services workers provide are a part of the company’s typical course of business or not. These laws are being put into place to ensure workers are being properly classified and not deprived of labor protections. If the law passes in New Jersey, it will be much stricter than California’s and completely change the transportation model that has been in place for over 100 years.
