The trucking industry in California is being hit hard with the AB5 law about to go into effect. This law determines whether a worker is an employee or contractor, which doesn’t work well with owner-operator type truckers and companies. One trucking couple packed up and moved to Oklahoma, unsure what their future has in store. The California Trucking Association is getting calls from owner-operators saying they can’t work in California anymore. Another couple has been looking for a new location in Tennessee for their business. Even after complying with emission laws, quite a few truckers are going to have a financially difficult time staying in California. With lawsuits pending from the CTA and other trucking companies, truckers are now sitting back and waiting to see what happens.
