The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is asking the public about more Hours of Service regulatory relief. The pilot program they are seeking comments on would allow drivers one off-duty break for at least 30 minutes but not to exceed three hours. This would pause the 14-hour driving window as long as the driver takes 10 consecutive hours off-duty when their shift has ended.
This pilot program would be limited to certain CDL holders who meet the participating criteria. It would run for three years or less and would provide valuable information regarding the modification of HOS rules.
