When the snow starts falling and roads get icy, life as a truck driver gets a lot trickier. There are many states that require drivers to put chains on their tires to enhance their traction on these treacherous roads.
Colorado is covered in mountains and has snowy weather over half of the year. Colorado’s chain laws run from Sept. 1 through May 31 on every highway. There are fines for not carrying chains and not chaining up when required.
In Washington, truckers must carry chains starting Nov. 1 and ending April 1. Depending on how heavy your load depends on how many chains you must carry and use. They also have a specific type of chain you have to use, including cables but not plastic.
