TuSimple, the autonomous trucking company, and Pima Community College of Tucson, Ariz., have joined forces and created a new certificate program. This program, titled the “Autonomous Vehicle Driver and Operations Specialist,” begins in September. In order to continue building knowledge about driving a truck, a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a requirement for enrollment.
As the industry changes, this program will help further the knowledge and skills of the truck drivers of today. The curriculum will include new skills, such as monitoring a system remotely from a command center and integrating driving skills into autonomous systems by way of test drivers. As students graduate from the program, TuSimple will put them at the top of their list for new hires. The hope is to make this a nationwide venture at TuSimple is looking for other schools interested in offering this certificate program.
