While on her way to a truck show in Louisville, Ky., Shannon Currier ran over a 5/16-inch wrench lying in the road at just the right angle to puncture her tire. After finding out her AAA coverage had lapsed she called a couple of trucker colleagues and coworkers to tell them she would be late getting to the show. Scott Wagner of Spartan Direct was one of the people she called who then grabbed Robert Barnette of Swift Transportation Company and together they drove 38 miles to help Currier get back on the road.
For helping out a fellow truck driver in a time of need, the Truckload Carriers Association (TCS) recognized Wagner and Barnette as ‘Highway Angels”, awarding them each a certificate, lapel, pin, patch, and truck decals.
Since the ‘Highway Angels’ program started in 1997, the TCA has recognized hundreds of drivers for their good and brave acts on the job.
