Just Because You have a Criminal Background doesn’t Mean You can’t Drive a Truck

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission suggests to employers that they evaluate the criminal convictions of their job candidates before jumping to conclusions. They should look for things like how much time has passed since the conviction or sentence, if the conviction has any relation to the job, and what the gravity and nature of the offense was.

When looking for a job in the trucking industry and you have a criminal record you should consider a few things:

  • Some states set convictions aside depending on how long it has been since the offense.
  • The job candidate can request a copy of their background check.
  • Have honest conversations.
