In order to bring attention to the downward direction British Columbia’s forestry industry is going, around 200 logging trucks rolled into Vancouver to make their voices heard. They called for the price of stumpage fees to be cut. In recent months, the cost of doing business due to these fees is the reason 25 lumber mills in the province have shutdown. The government has stated that stumpage fees are directly related to the diminished supply of lumber due to fire and pests. Talks are in the work to have more responsive stumpage fees but they do not want to antagonize the U.S, their largest market.
