The American Transportation Research Institute has released new research about how tolls are collected and where the money goes. This was deemed a top priority project in 2019. The research includes analyzing 21 major toll systems that collected over $14.7 billion and shows that almost 50 percent of it was diverted to other uses. It also shows that toll revenue has also increased by 72 percent over the last decade which is quite a bit when compared to the inflation growth of only 16.9 percent.
