The Utah Department of Transportation is currently working on a new truck escape ramp just outside of Garden City. On U.S. 89, just before entering the city on the last hill, quite a few trucks have crashed so the UDOT decided to build a $5 million ramp system. A catch net cable system is being installed and is the first of its kind in Utah. Instead of just a gravel pit, this system is comparable to the cables that catch incoming aircraft on aircraft carriers. This system takes less distance to stop a runaway truck and could save lives.
