2020 marks the 150th anniversary of when Louisa Swan, a 69-year-old housewife, cast the first ballot by a woman anywhere in the world. On September 6, 1870, Swain was on her way to the market and walked into her polling place and did her part. Also, this year marks the 100th anniversary of when the Nineteenth Amendment was formally certified.
To help spread the word of what the trailblazing women of our past did for the women of the world, the American Trucking Associations, the Louisa Swain Foundation, and the Wyoming Office of Tourism have put together the Louisa Swain Convoy. A specially wrapped trailer will be traveling the country for the next week starting at the U.S. Capitol and ending in Laramie, Wyoming, where it all began. Four female professional truck drivers will be leading this convoy and educating people along the way.
