Tires can be a large expense on a fleet’s operating budget so a lot of companies out there decide to retread their tires, which is 35 percent cheaper than getting new tires. A major concern, and misconception, about retreading tires is that they are less safe than new tires. Airlines, ambulances, fire trucks, and buses all use retreaded tires. The most recent report to come out about tire debris on the road indicates that retreaded tires and new tires leave about the same amount of blown tire debris on the road. It also states that crashes related to truck tire failure and debris accounts for less than 1 percent of crashes. With almost 725 retread tire plants in the U.S., the budget for fleet tires stays down and the landfills get less tire waste. Click the link below to read more about retreading.
