The United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has put out a guidance document stating that they will be using technology to conduct compliance reviews. During the COVID-19 public health emergency, the FMCSA will be using available technology for accessing information and records to limit the risk of exposures and keep everyone safe and healthy. Safety ratings will be assigned following the review even if no on-site action took place. Motor carriers can upload information to a secure portal, submit it directly, and fax or email to the FMCSA. Telephone and video calls are a good substitute for in-person interaction during this time.
