Late-afternoon queues have been eliminated at the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles thanks to the appointment-based system called PierPass. Since its launch a year ago, PierPass has made it possible for the port terminals to offer a third more appointment slots then containers to pick up. This system offers two peak shifts and two off-peak shifts to accommodate everyone’s schedule. During this year’s third quarter, 41% of the nighttime slots were available and 30% of the daytime slots were available showing the efficiency of the system.
